grants for private candidates

Ofqual in the year of 2021 has produced a number of guidance for private canddiates. Some of which includes typcial fees and any grants that are available. While in the 2021 and the unprecedanted pandemic there has been a more pressure of exam centres to take private candidates. Many have been unwilling so ofqual has provided the opportunity for centres to apply for grants.
For the summer of 2021 there is an available grant of £200 per entry is intended to cover the additional costs an exam centre would incur this year because the assessment approach is different.
For this grant, the exam cntre would expecdt to consider removing the financial barriers for the private candadate to sit their exams at their exams centre.
While the private candidate Exam centres would be expected to charge private candidates what they would normally charge in a non pandemic year.
The grant is not available if the candidate is charged more than the fee laid out below.
£350 per subject at A level £250 at AS level £200 at GCSE
If the candidate was previously registered with the exam centre before the grand was announced. The centre can still claim the grant for this candidate if they meet other criteria. Including not over charging the private candidate.
The exam centre should check they meet the relevant criteria. If need be reimburse fees and provide if possible the grant to the exam private candidate.
It is at the existing centre’s discretion to consider refunding any fees paid so far if the candidate changes centre.
